Disliking losing control of the lives of his family, Roland's temper got the better of him. Yet his generosity was without question a redeeming trait of his character. Loving him Elizabeth accepted the man he was; and persuaded to go on an outing, arranged for the women deserted in the football season by their men folk, Elizabeth made some new friends, calling themselves, "Football Widows".
