Description
Heterogeneous and reactive flows are important in many areas, including aeronautics and space, the chemical industry, nuclear engineering, gas and electricity production, and the automotive industry. Reactive flows present heterogeneities or variations of concentration, temperature, speed, and sources of transfer phenomena such as thermal conduction, diffusion, or viscosity. The existence of these multiple phenomena coupled with convection makes the study of these flows difficult.
This work examines basic concepts and methods necessary to study heterogeneous and reactive flows in areas such as fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and chemistry. Presented are tools of interest to graduate students, researchers in mathematical physics, and engineers who wish to investigate problems of reactive flows. Portions of the text may be used in courses on the physics of liquids or in seminars on mechanics.
