In 2 Timothy 1:6, the Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy from prison, saying, "For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands." (NIV). Paul was encouraging Timothy, who felt discouraged and intimidated, to use the gifts that God had given him of leading the church and preaching effectively. Not using our gifts is like what happens to a campfire; the flames will eventually go out. However, if there is a glimpse of embers, you can rekindle it by continuously fanning the pieces of wood to increase the oxygen until the flames are burning again.
