The adoption of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) offers promising opportunities to build powerful management systems for industry. As industrial systems become more complex, devices in the IIoT need to be aware of contextual data of interest to them and when appropriate react to it, interoperating autonomously and with as little human intervention as possible. The use of middleware is highlighted in the literature as an alternative for managing devices in the IIoT, as well as to make the contextual processing more transparent to the applications. Considering this motivation, the main goal of this work is to design an approach for contextual processing in the EXEHDA middleware, which explores Dataflow Programming as a strategy to build rules.
