Intended for beginning students it contains many of the most commonly encountered hieroglyphic words and a few of the more obscure words and spellings.Contents include the major parts of speech; Substantives (nouns), names of gods, epithets, place names (toponyms), adjectives (including nisba/nisbe), adverbs, verbs (including causal), prepositions, pronouns (suffix, prefix, dependent and independent), etc.It intentionally omits certain hieroglyphs which are better covered in grammar texts (e.g., unspoken particles, dates, number system); and the various transliteration schemes.The hieroglyphic alphabet in appended to the main body of the dictionary (lexicon) and includes both the traditional Gardiner notation and concise English descriptions.
