In "A Resident of Dresden" and "Good Mother, Good Girl" the central characters are African American. In "Indian Summer," there is a significant connection to the Native American community. All the characters in the stories are transplants, from the German immigrants who founded the town, to the French Canadians who worked nearby, to the southern African Americans who settled there. This is the community of Dresden.
