For many years, I struggled to study the Bible. As a woman in her 50s who had been saved as a 12-year-old girl, I had completed devotions for years. As an adult, I began to teach Sunday School classes, using quarterly leader guides to assist me in understanding what the lesson writer wanted to convey. But I wanted more...more than a lesson that someone else wrote about God, more than a 5-minute devotional reading that included an anecdote about a short passage of scripture, more than a box checked off my "to-do" list showing that I had completed my daily duty to God. The more I grew spiritually, the more I longed to know the Lord better. I desired to know God's character, understand Jesus's teachings, and have a clearer picture of His will for my life. So, I began trying various study methods, praying more, spending more meaningful time in God's word, and asking God to manifest Himself in my study. With the help of the Holy Spirit, I began developing meaningful Sunday School lessons. My husband and I began teaching a pre-teen Sunday School class. One of our goals was to teach students the concept of becoming a true disciple for Christ. The Lord gave me a very heavy burden for our students because they had no idea where or how to begin studying the Bible. How had these students made a profession of faith 2 to 5 years ago and had no idea how to gain life instructions from the precious Word of God? Another revelation the Lord provided is that these pre-teens were not the only followers of Christ who possessed a limited knowledge of how to study. Their parents needed help, too. As the Lord continued to expand my understanding of His Word and the importance of teaching others, He inspired me to develop this devotional journal for Christians who desire a real, close relationship with God--those who have a heartfelt desire to know the heart of God.This book will allow you to study God's word in various ways, helping you identify your best method. It will encourage you to truly seek God by delving into the scriptures methodically and creatively, expanding your one-on-one experience with the Creator of the Universe.
