Contemporary Mission is Complex and Controversial Global mission has always been challenging, but globalization has heightened those complexities and revealed some controversies. Friction develops when emerging thoughts and approaches to mission differ among believers. Since mission is a relational enterprise, it involves people--wonderful, imperfect, and diverse people. Controversies in Mission examines current theological debates, including holistic mission and missionary ethics. This book describes the people of mission--specifically immigrants, second-generation Korean pastors, and US Americans around the world, as well as resolving conflict within missionary teams. Finally, it focuses on one controversial mission practice related to Bible translation--making choices about divine familial language. Though new approaches are regarded by some as innovative, others see them as flawed or heretical. Because of the presence of the Holy Spirit and the sufficiency of Scripture, we possess the resources to find clarity on controversial matters. The reader is invited here to think biblically and theologically about mission, hearing various perspectives, and to strive for clarity in mission practice.
