Supported by real facts, the author confirmed the existence of a positive relationship between sports competition and the organisation of personal commitments, responsibility and discipline, relationships with classmates and teachers, and motivation and commitment to carrying out school tasks. On the other hand, it was also possible to observe that the academic performance in two core subjects of students involved in sports competitions equalled or surpassed the results obtained by students without this competitive practice.
