Another possible point of deviation in this book: throughout the story, you'll see endnote citations. Good history is all about documentation. Using endnotes in this book for young readers will, I hope, teach them at an early stage about the usefulness of source-checking and research integrity. Each endnote will provide some of the actual history behind the events in the story.
