Description
"Battalion 1: Surviving After Taps" is an introductory publishing piece of work by author Donna J. Beacham. Her story is hauntingly intertwined with memoirs of her days held up in "Med Hell" for Naval boot camp in Orlando, FL in the mid-90s. With her mysterious injuries and lack of appropriate medical care, as well as stories of assaults and other maltreatment for recruits that are never made known to the general public, Beacham must come to grips with her enlightening but miserable reality, while also being haunted by the spirits of people who were not strong enough to survive such treatment. According to some of the recruits who are tucked away and hidden in shame from the rest of the world, boot camp teaches one how to be strong, fight for what is right, and for some, how to endure being tortured. The nonfiction and memoirs are appropriately woven to be a small-scale psychological thriller. Beacham's audience has found this book to be a captivating story of mental survival, keeping them to the edge of their seats, angering them with events that are allowed to happen, and crying for the ghosts who try to reach out to the troubled recruits who are fighting to survive.
