Molly, returns to her smart Chelsea home after five years in Norfolk as an evacuee to find that she may as well be an orphan and her father has secrets of his own. There's also something very intriguing about Covent Garden book shop owner, Ignatius Oliver, who also has secrets to hide when he befriends Molly and Charlie.

But wartime and loss are great levelers and Charlie, Molly and Ignatius form a great friendship and gain inspiration from each other to carry on at a time when life does not seem to hold the future they'd wished for.
