Baum also uses name-dropping by having Uncle John make allusions to writers of fairytales whose works have been adapted for the big screen. Additionally, it features Edith Van Dyne's lone self-proclamation in the series, in which she claims that her mother used to tell her that people with beauty had nothing else since she wasn't a lovely girl.
