Description
Short stories—most humorous, but a few with tragic endings—originally published in the New York Telegraph in 1905 and 1906. About half the contents are devoted to the residents of the title institution; others are told from the points of view of Bowery thieves and drug addicts, Rocky Mountain tour guides, con artists, and cowboys. The authorial voice is very similar to that of Green's contemporary O. Henry.
