Shannon never expected to write a follow-up story to any of the characters from "The Other Side." Zoë was originally based on one of his best friends from when he lived in Memphis in the late 90s. Back then when she learned he was going to write a book, she told him to put her in the book and name her Zoë. So that's just what he did. When that friend's daughter recently reached out to ask which of his books her mother appeared in, it made Shannon wonder where Zoë would be now. So, he sat down and started writing to find out. "Another Side of Zoë" shows how she has changed over the years, but also how she's remained a strong black woman with an unbreakable spirit in an ever-changing, and unstable world.
