Description

In Marilyn VanHoosen's mind, she was a prisoner at Trudeau Sanitorium - her penance for contracting tuberculosis and upheaving her parents' sham of an idyllic life. As she ticked off the days passed in the gloomy infirmary in upstate New York, she wondered what her parents' penance would be for refusing her the vaccine that all her teenage friends had received. Trudeau became more interesting, however, upon the arrival of Henry Winters, whose angelic face and goofy grin hid the severity of his illness.

As Marilyn and Henry connected, she confided in him the details of her father's troubling past, including the extra year he was away after World War ll ended, and discovering he had gone by more than one name. (Was he Pierre, or was he Paul?) Her mother, Mildred, offered no answers, instead remaining mum on the matter, and showing Marilyn more contempt than compassion when it came to her daughter's despair for her missing father. Same for contracting tuberculosis.

The only other person in the know was Maggie, Marilyn's best friend, who agreed to dig up answers back home in Philadelphia while Marilyn was confined to Trudeau. When Maggie's sleuthing unearthed that Pierre/Paul was once again missing, Marilyn, Maggie and Henry resolve to solve the mystery and expose what Mildred had been hiding all these years.

All That We Hide mixes romance with a World War ll mystery that generates so many twists and turns, you'll question everything you think you know about the VanHoosen family.
