In high school, Jan attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts on Saturdays and for six months, after she dropped out of college, she was a student at the Gene Frankel Theater Workshop. She also studied Mime with Paul Curtis. (Jan went back to college, got her BA, MA, and Ph.D.).
