A Leader with Courage: The Impact of Congresswoman Cardiss Collins is a book for young readers about the late Congresswoman Cardiss Collins, who served in Congress for 24 years, representing the West Side of Chicago. She was a Black female trailblazer, the fourth Black woman to serve in Congress. Collins was a champion for women's rights, reproductive health, and the rights of Black people. Collins entered Congress following the tragic death of her husband, Congressman George Collins, and she ran for his vacant seat, keeping alive his legacy. Frank E. Dobson, Jr., Ph.D. co-author of the Black Legacy Lessons book series, is an educator based in Ohio who hails from Buffalo, New York. Frank has published two novels, Rendered Invisible: Stories of Blacks & Whites, Love & Death (2010, Plain View Press) and The Race is Not Given (1999, Sterling House). Frank works at Otterbein University, as Interim Chief Diversity Officer, where he loves teaching and working with students. He also has a passion for community service. Jasmin N. Dobson, M.S.Ed., co-author of the Black Legacy Lessons book series, is a Chicago, Illinois educator and career coach who has been involved in film, social media, and civic engagement. She is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and Northern Illinois University. Jasmin has a passion for children's literature and is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She enjoys giving back to her community and mentoring youth.
